Te Awamutu Contract Bridge Club Inc Mini - Newsletter March 2008

Letter from Bruce – our new Life Member: (received in December) Dear Freda I would like to express my deepest thanks to the committee and members of the Te Awamutu Bridge club for the wonderful gift of life membership. I feel deeply humbled by this honour, and if on the evening I did not express this adequately, it is only because I was so overcome that as I think, all realised, I was really lost for words.

To be up there with the other long standing members is an honour I feel deeply privileged to have. I will continue to do all I can to assist the club in the future, and once again I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Yours in Bridge Bruce Owen

Restricted Tournament Sunday 30th March: the ONLY restriction is that OPEN PLAYERS must play with JUNIORS. Entries to Anne please – there is a sheet on the table. Players a plate for morning tea please. Raffle on Sale - $2 for 1 and $5 for 3. We like to have Raffles for the Tournaments and as with all the other Tournaments we appreciate donations from members. Entry list and Helpers required list is on the table. Waikato Club has had to cancel their Tournament because of lack of Entries. Come on folks we haven’t received many Entries– so BE IN.

Kitchen/ Cleaning: Our thanks to Jean Seddon who filled the gap until we found someone. Shannon Green has joined us - please make her feel welcome. Because Shannon is a schoolgirl she can’t organise the cup of tea on Fridays so help is needed in the kitchen. Especially but not only at Tournaments, we need help, please all members be aware of this and perhaps offer your assistance. Debz 870-4460 with a lot of help from Connie and Betty are organising. Please remember you don’t have to be on Committee to help to run your Club. All assistance is much appreciated.

From the AGM: 1. Monday Steward – Thanks to May Parlane for taking this on.

2. Directors to mention at the end of a series – if you have changed or got new partners by yourself please mention to the appropriate Partner Steward. The Stewards spend hours on the phone trying to get bums (sorry I meant bottoms) on seats for us

3. Letter from Ruth Holden to the AGM re: 1. Moving the room down one Table to give more room in front of the kitchen: Committee has decided to Trial this. 2. Coffee is served outside the kitchen: Cups, Spoons and milk and sugar to be placed on the table outside the kitchen perhaps even make a pot of coffee - to this end anybody got a big coffee pot or teapot taking up space in there cupboard we would appreciate that. 3. Moving the water cooler elsewhere to stop the congestion. Committee felt items 1 & 2 covered this but can of course be revisited.

We welcome feedback & suggestions: Agenda Notice on the Results Board.

Subscriptions: If you haven’t paid, please do so a.s.a.p. The Club is in a sound Financial position but after the roof we have a bit of a cash flow problem. Accounts are being put off till next month. Your $60 will help. Spare programme cards and up to date phone Lists are on the Results Board.

Tuesdays each Session is to be run as an Individual. Players are eligible to put their name down on the Grand Slammers Chart if the slam has not been coached - opponents to write it on the board. Tuesday players are eligible to put their name on the 70+ Chart.

Air Conditioner: Any problem please approach Brian between moves. Perhaps bring a Cardy.

Alan has a few ideas about the AC so in consultation with Brian they will get on to it.

Lessons: Start Thursday 3rd April. Remember all members may take a refresher

free of charge. Bruce will have topics for each week.

Fun Social Sunday once the Lessons have finished. Drawn pairs – a wine maybe even a Pot Luck

Dinner or Lunch. Think about it any suggestions appreciated.

Our Novice Members (playing Bridge less than 5 years) You know even if they have been with us for a few years or learners straight  out of Lessons, our newer members need to be encouraged, they probably wouldn’t dream of ringing you for a game. We must all take this on Board.

LET US MAKE SURE WE ALL ENJOY OUR BRIDGE
