Clubrooms

Napier Contract Bridge Club

A club was formed being called the H.B. Contract Bridge Club to play Duplicate Bridge in H.B. in 1951.

A Special Meeting of H.B Bridge Players on 14th September 1964 was held when it was decided that the time had come to form separate clubs in Napier and Hastings.

Bridge started 17 February 1965 with A & B grade evenings, and one afternoon session in various rented premises till 25th March 1965 when 169 Wellesley Road was purchased and play was held in three separate rooms.

In 1966 a building fund was started and by 1st July 1968 a tender was accepted for $13.784 and the Napier City Council granted permission to build clubrooms at Whitmore Park, Nuffield Avenue, Napier where the existing building now stands.

The deputy Mayor with City Councillors & wives opened the Clubrooms on 14 October 1968

WHY PLAY BRIDGE?

Bridge has such a wide appeal: those that have played other card games, a tactical and strategic game, good for your memory – and a good memory helps your play, it is mentally stimulating, a good opportunity to mix and meet and importantly it is FUN.

WHY PLAY AT NAPIER BRIDGE CLUB?

A friendly and relaxed club that caters for all.

With around 200 members it is small enough to still be friendly and informal. Very proudly Napier has won the inaugural National title of Top Club in winning against other Central Districts teams and then other provincial champions.

WHEN?

Playing options vary between afternoon and evening sessions and both social and more competitive groups.

LEARNING TO PLAY?

The next Bridge Learners lessons are scheduled to commence 3rd March 2008.

For those who have played before but feel ‘rusty’ then there are refresher options depending on your needs
