MARCH/APRIL NEWSLETTER 2008 · It was interesting how quickly we got a lot of responses to our last newsletter telling us it had not been attached!!! · Thanks Cath and Jill for another successful Sunday Social. · The April Sunday Social will be on 27 April and follow the same format as the February social. Please sign up for this event to assist the caterers. · Sign up soon for the Multi grade to be held on Easter Saturday. The catering committee is asking members to help with serving tea and coffee at start of play and lunchtime. Also instead of asking members to provide salads etc. those who wish to can donate money to offset the catering costs. Money can be given to either of the Helen’s on Thurs. nights or Joy, Joan or Bobby. · I’ll be away after Easter until early May please contact any committee member if you have any issues that need to be resolved. · Those players who have been taking afternoon lessons will start playing at the club around Easter so encourage them and if you are asked play with them, when they first come into the playing room make them feel welcomed. Some people find it hard to remember what it was like when they first started playing bridge. · Most of the new players found out about the lessons through the Adult Community Education booklet which was delivered to all homes in late January. So if we are going to have more beginners in May members need to encourage people to give it ago. Evening and day time lessons will be available. · Please add these names to your programme book. These new players will be shortly playing as they end their lessons: Bev and Ian Smith 367 5074 Stephanie Poor 363 6113 Debra Levet 368 5839 · Wednesday night Teams. This year the committee has decided that the more experienced teams will be asked to nominate a member to help with the running of the event. This is to spread the load between teams. If you would like to nominate yourself tell · The list will be up shortly for players to enter their teams. Remember that we need an even number of teams. If you do not have a team and would like to play or are available to be a substitute then please write your name down at the bottom of the sheet. · The committee has agreed to assist The Friends of The Horowhenua Library Trust with their fundraising activities. (I did not know until recently that the local council does not fully fund the library!!) On Sunday 18 May there will be an afternoon of bridge starting at · Friday 4 April at · To keep members up to date the committee is currently seeking funding assistance towards replacing the roof and resealing the car park. Both these large projects need to be done within the year. · For Thursday night players and any others here is Yollene’s Chocolate cake recipe: 1 cup flour 1 cup sugar ½ cup milk 25gm cocoa 75 gm butter 2 eggs 2tsp baking powder 1tsp vanilla essence Place all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and beat well.
