On 29 October 1964 the Hastings Bridge Club was born. It has been reared and nurtured by a great many people to what the Club is today.
Competitive play began in February 1965 in St Luke’s Hall, Havelock North. After moving a house, kindly donated by Mr & Mrs Baillie, to our present site at 911 Railway Road, Hastings the rooms were opened in November 1965 only one year after incorporation. This was achieved through member support of debentures and a lot of hard work. Six years later, a ground plan was proposed to enlarge the club to cater for 25 tables. Such was the growth in numbers. In June, 1971, with the availability to purchase the house and section next door, the Committee called a Special General Meeting and twenty-six attendees unanimously passed a motion to purchase the property. The 1975 Committee set in motion the extensions of the Club and after an enormous amount of time and effort by all members and Committee, the building we play in today was officially opened on April 15, 1977.
From the inaugural year, 1964 with 78 members to current day with over 250 members and associate members the club is definitely alive and well.
