Master Points Awards
There are 3 categories of Master Points awards:
| A Points | Awarded to players who finish in the top placings and session winners of A Point tournaments. |
| B Points | Awarded to players who finish in the top placings and session winners of B Point tournaments. |
| C Points | Awarded to players who are successful in any one session of play organised by a licensed club, Centre or Bridge New Zealand |
B Points are not convertible to A Points. C points are converted to B Points in the ratio of 100 C Points to one B Point.
MasterPoint Gradings
| Open | Any player with more than 100 Rating Points. |
| Intermediate | Any player with at least 31 and not more than 100 Rating Points and is below the rank of Provincial Master. |
| Junior | Any player with not more than 30 Rating Points and not more than 5 A Points. |
MasterPoint Rankings
There are ten ranks accorded to holders of Master Points.

| Silver Grand Master | 2500 (including at least 1250 A Points) |
| Gold Grand Master | 4000 (including at least 2500 A Points) |
A person with less than 5 A and B Points is classified as unranked.
Rating Points
Rating Points are calculated by adding a player's A and B points earned during the year to the previous year's Rating Points and depreciating by 20%. The calculation is done at 1st October each year and the new Rating Points come into force on the next 1st January.
