The Hamilton Contract Bridge Club is a progressive yet friendly club with around 340 members. It was established in 1952. The club is located now in Hamilton city near the Waikato Stadium. Sessions are run 4 evenings a week from Monday to Thursday with daytime sessions on Tuesday afternoons and Friday mornings. The club operates an open grading system which means members can play in any session. Having said that newer players tend to play on Tuesday evenings and stronger players on Wednesday evenings. Visitors are most welcome to play in club events but are not eligible for trophies or prizes. The tournament highlight of the year is the Hamilton Congress which is held in October over Labour Weekend. A series of free beginners' lessons are held each year beginning in March. The Hamilton Club became the first club in New Zealand to adopt the BridgeMate scoring technology. This uses wireless devices at each table to capture contracts and results electronically. The building is available for hire for compatible purposes. |
