This is all very well, and strange openings no doubt need a pre-alert. But a pair who plays a relatively scientific system is likely to have a large number of artificial responses when you consider all the possible openings, and it really is impractical to list them all when pre-alerting - and they will be forgotten anyway.
I am willing to bet your colour coding only covers opening bids, not responses. Am I right?

Mostly openings, some responses, some later bids (Blackwood and Gerber, for example, are mentioned).

Transfer responses are a special (probably unique) case where the overwhelming majority play the same meaning for a particular alerted bid.
The few who play some other meaning would likely catch their opponents by surprise. And they know it. Which is why I believe they ought to pre-alert it. I certainly agree with David that too many pre-alerts will defeat the purpose of the pre-alert system. |
