Richard Solomon presented the Financial Statements for the year ended 31st October 2010. He reported that the club made a loss in the last financial year of $682, most of the reduced financial performance coming from the greater cost of the club’s two tournaments, a cost which is controllable. He moved acceptance of the Treasurer’s Report; seconded Douglas Russell; carried unanimously. Election of Officers. Lisa Jones moved that all existing officers and committee members able to do so be reelected; seconded Trevor Robb; carried unanimously. The following were thus reelected: President: Douglas Russell Vice President Tony Morcom Secretary Stephanie Jacob Treasurer Richard Solomon Committee: Owen Camp, Mark Hangartner, Susan Humphries, Barry McLean, Glenis Palmer, Trevor Robb. General Business Trophy Board. The committee has decided on what should be on the board and Richard Solomon advised progress was being made, with a view to completion by mid-year 2011. Slow Play. Douglas Russell advised that an improvement has been noticed. Most club nights are finishing on time, boards have been pulled when required, no penalties have had to be given as yet. The issue appears to have been resolved. Tickets for Table Money. Only a few members were using this facility that was trialled this year, however the club will continue to provide this as an option for table money. Table Money and Subscription rates. A letter from Auckland Bridge Club was received advising of a rent increase for 2011. The rent will now be a flat rate for the year of $8000.00 plus gst, this amounts to an increase of approximately $700.00 for the year. Richard Solomon advised that if we maintain our current table numbers the club will record a loss of $1000.00 for the year. He proposed that members should look at making some contribution to the loss in rent and his recommendation is to increase the annual subscription by $5.00. It should be noted that the Club will still be running at a slight loss for the year. Richard Solomon proposed that table money remain the same as per 2010 and subscription rates increase by $5.00…seconded Helen Thornton. The proposal was carried unanimously. Competition Winners. Akarana Swiss Pairs. Geo Tislevoll and Michael Ware. The following trophies were presented: Club Championships. Richard Solomon, Owen Camp, Denis Humphries, David Dolbel. Most Improved Player. Andi Boughey. Akarana Christmas Party to be played this Sunday 12 December. Bridge Mates/Pads. Michael Cornell enquired on the possibility of the Club purchasing electronic score pads for the club’s playing night. This suggestion received unanimous support so a proposal from Trevor Robb that the committee research all the requirements of using electronic scoring equipment in view of the club purchasing an adequate number to enable their use for club playing night, seconded by Jonothan Westoby. Next Year. The first tournament in 2010 will be a Butler Pairs event, starting on Wednesday 2nd February. THE MEETING CLOSED AT 8.10 PM.
