AKARANA BRIDGE CLUB INCORPORATED
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 10th December 2008 7.20pm

Present: Committee and club members
Apologies: Susan Humphries and Douglas Russell

Previous AGM minutes read – Motion put forward that these be accepted by Tama Turnwald, seconded Stanley Abrahams, and unanimously accepted.

President Report by Eileen Horsman, motion put forward that these be accepted by Eileen Horsman, seconded Trevor Robb, unanimously accepted.

Treasurer’s Report by Richard Solomon,
The club recorded a surplus of $1697 in the year ($1010 deficit prior year).
Membership constant though table numbers considerably up.
Table money is up $1500. Swiss Pairs surplus is up $420 on 2007. Depreciation is down $400 with all Fixed Assets virtually written off, only $268 left. Maintenance costs were nil for the year and the 2007 Party tournament cost $370 less than the previous year.
While the financial position is much improved, this is dependent on increased table numbers while a further rent increase could be expected. It would be premature to reduce table money at present.
Motion put forward that these be accepted by Richard Solomon, seconded Jane Morris, and unanimously accepted.

Youth table money to remain $1.00

Points Trophy
Members were asked to discuss whether there was sufficient interest in developing a points system to be used on the playing night to ascertain our most improved female and male player for the year. The majority of member’s were not interested in implementing such a system. As there are two trophies available, it was decided that the committee can decide on some other method for awarding the prize for most improved player/s.

Northern Bridge Club Trophy Board
Stanley requested that the committee considers using this board to display our annual tournament winners, as it is a fine historical record and there is plenty of room which is now no longer in use. It was unanimously agreed that this was a good idea and permission will be sought for the use of this board.

NZ Bridge Board Re-Election of Officer’s
The board is calling for any nominations from the club to fill two vacancies on the NZ Bridge Board. Applications close 12 February 2009. More details to be found on NZ Bridge website.
We have currently one member on the board: Michael Ware.

Christmas Party Tournament
A thanks was given to Anisia Shami for organising the 2008 party tournament. Anisia requested that due to the lack of interest in that the tournament was a 3A, would the club consider changing it to an 8B. It was agreed that the focus of the tournament is to “relax and enjoy” rather than a competition for “A points”.

Bridge Scorer’s
A motion was made by Michael Ware that the committee considers purchasing Bridge Pads for 2009, seconded by Mike Cornell. Majority accepted. Duncan Badley advised that NZ Bridge were still having some technical difficulties with the electronic scorer’s and recommended we wait for another 12 months before purchasing. The other issue that needs to be resolved before purchase is the lack of internet connection to our playing room.

New Bidding Boxes
It was requested that due to wear and tear, these need to be replaced (the bidding cards only). Owen agreed to organise.

Event in February 2008
The first playing night of 2009 is the 4 February and it is a pair’s event. Richard Solomon requested that entries are in as soon as possible by phone or email and to advise him if you are playing the Gold Coast Congress.

Meeting closed 8.20pm
