File ManagerFile Editor - Introduction

The online File Editor allows you to make real-time changes to any of your web pages.

To use the File Editor, click the name of the file you wish to edit in your File Manager. If the file is locatd in a subfolder, you'll have to select that folder first.

When you click a file to edit you will be taken to the File Editor screen (pictured below).

This is the WYSIWYG mode (What You See Is What You Get). Simply enter your text directly into the page.

Use the toolbar at the top of the screen to alter the format and layout of your page. You can also add images, hyperlinks and other effects.

Click the "Preview" button at the bottom of the screen to see how your page will look. When you're happy, click the "Finish" buton to save your changes.

Important: Although the WYSIWYG mode is adequate for making simple changes to your page, you really need to use the HTML mode to have complete creative control. This requires learning a little bit about HTML - see our tutorials on the help page for more information. You must also realise that any WYSIWYG editor wll show an approximation of how the page will appear - to see it as it really is, preview the page.

Note that this applies to any web design software - whether you're using Frontpage, Dreamweaver, or anything else. Better tools will give you better WYSIWYG control, but there is no substitute for good old HTML.

To use HTML mode, click the "HTML" button at the bottom of the screen.
